"Our Welcoming Committee"
The Kroese Farm is located just outside of Adams, Nebraska. And on any given day you may be welcomed to our home by our residents "Sonny" the Dalmatian, "Lacy" the Sheltie, "Breezy" and "Buddy" the Scotties, or "Slinky" the Dachshund. |
|
| About Us: |
| We are the Kroese's. Both Don and Sheryl were born and raised in this midwest community and have been married now for 34 years. We have 9 children that have kept us busy. The last three living at home are now 15, 13 and 11 years old and help us with our family business.
Sheryl always wanted a Scottie since she was very young. As a child she would play with her Mother's brass bookends that were kept in the living room. She knew they were dogs but it wasn't until years later she realized they were two Scotties. Then in school she had an art project that involved a little dog and it was a Scottie. She told herself then that some day she would have a Scottie! |
 |
|
Don and Sheryl acquired their first Scottie when their youngest child was two years old which was in 1994. The Scottie's name was Heidi and we were her second family. The first family had gotten Heidi because they thought Scotties were cute but had no information on the personality of the breed (see Breed Characteristics). They had two young children that were not supervised and were too rough with her. We took the dog with caution. Once we saw how scared Heidi was, we loved her and set boundries for her and taught our children how to respect a young puppy. She soon realized that we were there for her and she found her forever home with us. |

Five years ago our daughter Hannah became interested in taking our 6 month old Scottie Adam to Dog 4-H class. She soon became hooked and three months later she received the reserve ribbon for both Dog Showmanship and Obedience at our County Fair. Adam was a Scottie that had all attitude and no conformation so we decided we needed a Scottie that we could show in the breed ring. So that started our search for a well bred Scottie. |
Hannah started to show in Junior
Showmanship at the AKC level, and a few years later her sister Abby joined in
showing. In Spring 2002, our daughter Gretchen turned ten years old and she
is now showing a wheaten Scottie named "Redford" in Juniors. She is doing very
well.
All three girls show our Scotties in the Breed Ring also. We are carefully breeding our Scotties to do
well not only in the Show ring, but more importantly to be a great family companion in our home as well as
yours. You can look forward to sharing your love with a happy, healthy Scottie for many years (12 years is the
average life expectancy).
Don is our all-around person. He can hold a dog when nail trimming is needed, be a carpenter, mechanic and our driver to the dog shows. He is also the Sunday morning "catcher tester". With the leftover scrambled eggs in hand, the Scotties make a half circle around him and he sees who is the best at catching a bit of scrambled egg. I think he makes a little extra just so he can play the game with the dogs!
Sheryl is the groomer and the nursery worker. She is the nurturer. ALL SCOTTIES ARE RAISED IN THE HOME. So many a time you will find Sheryl sleeping next to a new or expectant mother to make sure all goes well. She is the main puppy trainer and loves it!
The girls are working with obedience and learning how to groom and show their Scotties. It is a family operation and we all work together as a team. It is something we enjoy very much. |
We are so very proud of our Junior Handlers! |
